These are a few of the day trips we have taken when we want to stay close to home. Each Christmas, we try to take the kids to a cultural event. One of their favorites is the Nutcracker Ballet, at the Oklahoma Ballet in Oklahoma City. There are several good children's museums in the state, but the closest to us is the Jasmine Moran children's museum in Seminole. It focuses on careers and adult-type activities, all geared to children in a hands-on environment. On a pretty day, be sure to take the train ride and visit Safety Town, an entire village built outside by the playground. One of our surprise finds was Leonardo's Discovery Warehouse, in Enid. We initially went because our museum network membership (purchased at Jasmine Moran) covered the entrance fee and we wanted to try something new. However, we will find our way back in the future! In the 'garage,' kids can create using real tools.; there is an indoor 'zoo,' and several science & technology exhibits. The medieval theme is fun and unique, and there is an entire outside play area (which we did not take advantage of during the Polar Vortex days) that looks like a good half-day of fun.
